Synaesthetic Systems is a multi-media, multi-sensory exhibition exploring the work of Strangeloop Studios (SLS), a pioneering visual production company. This exhibition is anchored in an ethos that has guided SLS from the studio’s inception: embrace new media, merge design and world-building to create novel experiences, allow play to mature into practice. The studio’s work seeks out the boundaries of audio-visual art, initiating conversations between physical and digital spaces. Pulling from projects throughout their history and a new work developed for this exhibition, SLS invites you to partake in their process and engage with the possibilities of visual storytelling. As you explore the space, remember that friction is part of interaction…so twist the knobs until things look weird.

This exhibition is dedicated to the legacy of Austin Peralta, who introduced co-founders David and Ian, inspiring the creation of Strangeloop Studios.

Strangeloop Studios was cofounded by David Wexler and Ian Simon in 2012. SLS is based in Los Angeles and operates worldwide, with a list of over 100 artistic collaborators including Flying Lotus, The Weeknd, Erykah Badu, Zeds Dead, BLACKPINK and Kendrick Lamar. They have produced visual content for events such as Coachella, the GRAMMY Awards, the MTV VMAs, and countless concert stages around the globe. Their team consists of animators, designers, directors, producers, musicians, and developers.

Fourth River is a collaboration between Honcho PGH, a music and events collective, and The Rising Artist Foundation, a nonprofit providing grants and resources to emerging musicians. Established in 2025 and named in homage to Pittsburgh’s underground, essential aquifer, Fourth River provides free programming to help artists nourish and navigate their creative careers.
