Join the Pittsburgh Symphony for curated music experiences that introduce students to the orchestra and nurture a love of music!

Registration is free, but required.

Program Notes: No physical tickets will be issued for Schooltime concerts. All groups will be checked in by a PSO staff member on the day of the concert and must be registered in advance to attend. All schools are responsible for securing transportation. On the concert day, each school bus must display a PSO bus sign with the school's name clearly visible.

Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant

How does music bring characters to life? Join the Pittsburgh Symphony for a performance of Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant by best-selling poet and author, Jack Prelutsky, with music by Lucas Richman. Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant is a collection of whimsical poems combining animals and objects to create new, fantastical characters. Associate Conductor Moon Doh leads the orchestra as vocalist Katy Williams narrates each poem alongside beautiful illustrations of each creature. Students are sure to love this musical mash-up as they meet Shoehornets, Alarmadillos, and of course, the Umbrellaphant!

The Courage to Stand

What do YOU stand for? What does it mean to stand for something? How does one do so? Join Associate Conductor Moon Doh, along with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and special guests, for a dynamic exploration of musicians, dancers, poets, and other leaders who have used the power of the arts to express their core convictions.

How can disparate elements create something new? Associate Conductor Jacob Joyce leads the Pittsburgh premiere of Mason Bates’ multi-media concerto Philharmonia Fantastique, fusing the creative vision of one of America’s leading composers with the technological brilliance of Skywalker Ranch film and sound professionals. The result is an incredible journey across mediums and into the heart of the orchestra. 
 
There will be a special one-night only evening performance of Sound Fusion on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at Heinz Hall. This family-friendly performance is open to all ages and school groups are welcome. Buy tickets here →

Meet the Orchestra

How do instruments make sound? Explore how sound is created with Associate Conductor Moon Doh and the Pittsburgh Symphony! Together we will learn how each instrument family creates its unique sound, how those sounds work together in an orchestra, and what role the conductor plays in bringing orchestral music to life.
