Steinberg Society

The Steinberg Society was established to recognize donors who have ensured the future financial stability of the PSO by designating the Orchestra a beneficiary in their estate plans and have advised the Development Office that they have done so. Named for beloved conductor, William Steinberg, the organization honors members who have made deferred gifts through wills, charitable trusts, life insurance, retirement accounts and other deferred gifts.

Maestro Steinberg's portrait in the Grand Lobby marks the site of the honor roll where members names are inscribed, recording their commitment in perpetuity. Unless directed otherwise by a donor, the PSO adds estate gifts to its permanent endowment where the principal remains untouched and a percentage of the earnings support the annual fund each year.

We hope that if you decide to leave a gift to the Pittsburgh Symphony through your will or trust that you will let us know. Steinberg Society members are invited to an intimate brunch in the Mozart Room annually for a private musical performance.

Remember Us in Your Will
The gift that costs you nothing during your lifetime, charitable bequests are made through a simple designation in your will or living trust. And you have the comfort of knowing that you can amend or revoke a charitable bequest if your circumstances change. Sample language is provided here:

If you give stocks you've owned for more than one year that are worth more than when you purchased them, you'll qualify for significant tax advantages.

Give Retirement Plan Assets
Retirement assets can be heavily taxed if left to your kids Consider making the Pittsburgh Symphony a beneficiary of a percentage of your retirement plan assets. Then, leave less heavily taxed assets to your loved ones.

Arrange a Charitable Trust
With a charitable remainder trust, you can receive income each year (either fixed or variable) from assets you place in the trust. After your lifetime, the balance in the trust goes to the charities of your choice.

Subject to certain restrictions, the Pittsburgh Symphony may accept these types of gifts subject to review by the symphony's gift acceptance committee.
